MySpace

Even if your child doesn’t have an account they most likely have heard about it or has a friend or two that has it. MySpace has become the new “Mall” where people hang out at. There are a million different applications to play with, customize your own page to reflect your style, post blogs, give people a status message about how your day is going, and keep in touch with friends.

There is nothing wrong with “MySpace” it’s self. But the users on MySpace can be fraudulent and dangerous.

Here are some actual situations, facts, and tips to protect your self and your children.

If the child registers and uses a birth date that is under the age of 18 Myspace automatically makes their profile private unless they areĀ  added a friend.

Teens, mainly girls get caught up in alot of drama on myspace. Some girls take it as far as slandering others, posting ridiculous things about someone else, and destroying their lives. There is no way to 100% prevent this. Every parent should do their job and monitor what their child posts.

Communicate with your children. Make them aware of the dangers of myspace. Whether or not they are the bully or the one being bullied there are consequences for both parties. Make sure they are not chatting with someone they do not know. Its fine to make a new friend. DON’T GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFORMATION.
